Personal
I was born in Lima, Peru in1960. As a child, I spent
several years in Iquitos,
the largest city in the Peruvian rain forest, where my parents Jose and Norma
were born. My two sisters, Monica and Silvia, along with my parents, Jose
and Norma, also migrated from Peru
to Miami, Florida
over the last two decades. I received my undergraduate Economics degree
from the University of Lima, and stayed
home until 1984, when I left for the U.S.A. in search of brighter
horizons. I received my Ph.D. in Economics from the Johns Hopkins University in 1990.
Also in 1990, I married Gabriella A.
Bucci, whom I met while in graduate school. Gabriella
is an Associate Professor of Economics at DePaul
University. We have two children, Alessandro (17) and Isabella
(14), as well as an 8 year old Giant Schnauzer, Cindy. We
currently make our residence in the suburban Southwest side of Chicago.
